Sammi Wilson Art -a brand new studio for 2022

Yr Draig Goch - The Welsh Dragon

May 25th 2022

We caught up with Sammi from Sammi Wilson Art:

"Well, the past couple of months have been the busiest and most exciting of this white knuckle ride that is my life, so far!

In April (after a false start due to experiencing the delights of Covid) “Sammi Wilson Art” opened.

Deciding on the calm, cool dark blue and white minimalist decor in the Gallery has worked well in creating a chilled and peaceful environment to show off the absolute riot that is the rich and vibrant colours of my work.

As many customers will see, Sammi Wilson Art is a big change from Tawny Owl Toys who sadly closed their doors in October last year. But, where there is new, there is also a nod to the past. If you look closely, you will see that the cash desk, is in fact Maureen’s workbench where she spent many happy hours over the years crafting toys for Children and the Children’s children!

We have lovingly repaired and up-cycled the desk and hope we will continue to use it for many years to come.

We have had such a warm and wonderful welcome from the other Artisans at Corris, locals and visitors over the past seven weeks, we really feel very lucky to be here!

I think the part I have really enjoyed the most, is meeting new people, welcoming so many lovely customers who are always so interested to discuss the techniques I use when creating my art.

Of all the visitors, it has been the Children who I have loved meeting the most, as they ask a thousand questions and will quite happily tell me what they see in my abstract pictures.  I have met many aspiring artists and have shared tips and ideas to enable them to create their own works of art and let their imaginations run free.

We have had huge interest in our ideas to run art experiences for Children and so we are preparing the workshop part of Unit 2 to welcome children of all ages to come and be creative and inspired. More details will be available on our website at www.sammiwilson.co.uk in the coming weeks.

With Summer comes the ability to enjoy the longer evenings and lighter mornings. You might see me out and about capturing the exceptional beauty of the area with my camera. The images are being processed and will be available in the shop and online very soon.

During the day, visitors can watch me create my artwork using a whole host of papers, the top secret home made “ink extender” solution which I formulated after much trial and error, and of course lots of highly pigmented and colourful non toxic inks. Recently I have begun to explore the creation of my own vegan inks using organic matter from plants and foraged items from all around the local area. This is a work in progress but I am looking forward to working on this more, especially as the seasons change.

My commission order book is now open, so if you would like something special please do come and talk to me, or call me or drop me an email or message on social media! I follow my followers back! @sammiwilsonart is on Facebook and Instagram. I love seeing your photos of where my artwork is displayed so please feel free to tag me!

Mum (Janice) has been busy creating more quirky birds for her “Crazy Old Bird” range, where she takes a natural photographic shot of a bird, paints it and then “tweaks” (not tweets!) it to make them …a little more amusing!

Of course it wouldn’t be a proper Welsh Art Gallery / Studio without Dragons… and we have a few waiting to make their appearance over the coming weeks so please do pop in and say Hi and maybe, if you like what you find, stay a while and browse… "
